Spray tanning is a form of self tanning (or sunless tanning) where a fine mist is sprayed onto your body. This mist has an ingredient in it called Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) that interacts with your own skin’s chemistry to turn it tan, or bronze.

You can be allergic to the ingredients found in common spray tan materials! Your body can react negatively to things that you never thought of and can cause quite a bit of pain.

Spray tans are a common thing to get because of overexposure from the sun which can cause sunburn and increase your chance of skin cancer.

Although the average spray tan is advertised to last up to 10 days, it really depends on how dark you’re trying to go.

Lighter shades may last up to five days. Medium shades typically lasts seven or eight days. Darker shades can last up to 10 days.

To buff and prep your skin before heading to the pros, make sure you stock up your bathroom cabinet with a body scrub, exfoliator mitt and nourishing cream.

If you can only squeeze in one step before your spray tan, then this is it. Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate!

  • Don’t use moisturisers 8 hours before the spray tanning session
  • Remove all the makeup, lotions, and jewellery before the session.
  • Don’t use any deodorants while going to the tanning salon
  • Don’t wax 48 hours before the appointment
  • Avoid bar soaps like DOVE while taking a bath

Avoid sweating or shower for the next 12 hours to keep the tan intact
